I still can't see why he was fighting it so badly in the beginning. Maybe he was affraid we would less focus on the awesomeness of the stories if they crossed the line ? Thing is, even in season 1 Mulder and Scully were beating us on the head with the subtext so it was a lost battle from the get go. \O/ indeed !
