Humanity. Greatest monster of them all.

That was what the Master said to the Doctor last year and this is this week's episode in a nutshell.

AND THIS IS WHY YOU ALWAYS BRING YOUR COMPANION WITH YOU, DUMBO !

Gosh, this episode was extra stressful for me because I'm not a people person and I really believe that this is what would happen in a situation of panic.

I found the episode genius in every way. It was just one set, a bunch of actors, some sound effects and dialogues repeated twice and that's all it needed to do something completely new for the show and unexpected for the viewer. Last week's preview wasn't really appealing because this episode is impossible to reduce to a good trailer without giving everything away.

I loved the first ten minutes where Ten is just happy to be here and chatting with everyone, it served to show his ginormous love and interest for the humans and it made their attempt to kill him in a fit of panic later on all the more cruel and horrifying.

The gradual rise of the passengers' panic and paranoia rang extremely true and was completely unnerving. Their fear of the unknown contrasted effectively with the Doctor's curiosity and fascination over the alien. It made it clear that he would start freaking them out pretty quickly. And he really can't defend himself for the life of him DAMNIT. This would have never happened if Donna had come along. I'm sure he'll be more cautious the next time he gets stuck with a bunch of those lovely humans he's so fond of, at least I hope so.

But I understand the passengers in a way because the repeating, talking in sync, getting ahead (god that flippin' second when Sky spoke before the Doctor WAS SUCH A HEART STOPPING MOMENT) and stealing voices was downright freaky. And what was really interesting is that we'll never know if that alien meant to harm them in the end or was just learning and copying the main comportement displayed by the other species it had encountered (which means it didn't really want to kill the Doctor).
Lesley Sharp as Sky deserves major kudos because her chilling performance blew me away. As did David acting TEH FEAR, but he amazes me pretty much every week so it's not like I was surprised by his skills.

Ten is living hell this series isn't he ? I didn't find him particulary happy last year but compared to what he's going through almost EVERY BLOODY EPISODES in series 4, it really doesn't compare (apart from the Master's death OBVS). Don't get me wrong, I *love* it because the Doctor suffers oh so prettily but I'd like it if he could be happy for 45 minutes straight once in a while. I wouldn't want him to spontaneously regenerate from despair. Unfortunately I think it's going downhill from here til the finale D:

The Rose appearances are getting repetitive and tedious, it's a good thing she comes fully back next week.

Donna wasn't much in this one so I found it totally hilarious that this episode had the most Ten/Donna shippy undertones (apart from TUATW of course) of the whole series ! They acted so much like a couple in those two little scenes that it totally made up for the lack of Donna orsum overall (and I'm also glad she took a break anyway because she *really* needed it).

I ADORED the gloomy use of "don't do that, really don't." at the end. I never thought it could be used as something other than a joke. What a fantastic idea !

This is definitely my favourite Rusty episode with Parting of the Ways and Utopia. Either he fucks up completely or delivers something brilliant, I obviously love it when it's the latter and I'll try to remember him for that.

Next week's trailer : The sheer power of the level of DOOM that transpired from it knocked me out. The sight of the Doctor's lifeless body (even if I know that it can't be permanent) truly horrified me. Rose saying that Donna is going to die made me want to smack a bitch and scream.

All in all, fun times to come, yay ! *not so sekritly freaked out*
