rosengirlFirst of all, Jon Pertwee on Gotcha.
I saw this last night and am now bursting with love for the guy. He seemed to be the sweetest, most patient and loveable man ever.
Three will always remain one of my favourite Doctor of them all ♥
Then instead of doing some work today (I know) I watched two films and come bearing reviews.
Ryan Gosling once again BLEW MY MIND with Lars and the Real Girl. He's one of the best actors I have ever seen and I have yet to find a bad film with him. He always picks interesting and challenging roles and never fails to suprise me.
The film in itself was quietly beautiful and heart warming. I loved the sobreity of the direction and the intimacy of the piece. Gosling was again completely transformed and succeeded to make the emotion of his character feel real out of a ridiculous situation.
Of course it's not entirely perfect because you have to have a great big suspension of belief regarding the general reaction of the community he lives in but it wasn't too hard and it didn't put me off.
I won't pimp the trailer because it makes it look like a silly comedy and that couldn't be more wrong.
Now the second one, not that I've actually seen it or anything *of course* hum.. But it was quite good :D
It wasn't OMGAMAZING!!1!!11 and some parts were incredibly cheesy and made me eyeroll BUT.
I ENJOYED THE HELL OUT OF ITS CRACKTASTIC FUN GLORY.
There's eyecandy, especially :
Wolverine stark naked escaping from Stryker.
Victor (Liev Schreiber)'s... Animalistic Evol Magnetism of Doom.
Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and his Sword Dance of Fabulousness.
GAMBIT AND HIS EVERYTHING. SERIOUSLY GAMBIT IS FAN-FUCKING-TASTICLY FIERCE. I WAS FLAILING EVERYTIME HE WAS ON SCREEN (which wasn't a lot, sadly).
Bearing in mind that lots of FX weren't completed in this version, the fight scenes were brilliant ! My favorite is the Logan vs GAMBIT, because GAMBIT IS FAN-FUCKING-TASTICLY FIERCE, but I really can't wait to see the finished version of the final fight scene because it already looked damn good here. The fights were all gorgeously choreographed.
And then the most pleasing aspect of the film for me ? THE INCREDIBLE LEVEL OF SLASH !!
I had no idea that Victor would turn out to be Logan's brother so this is yet again AN ANGSTY TALE ABOUT BROTHERLY HATE/LOVE WITH ACTUAL DECLARATIONS OF LOVE IN IT.
I also slash Logan and the FAN-FUCKING-TASTICLY FIERCE GAMBIT, because GAMBIT IS SO BLATANTLY FLIRTING WITH HIM LIKE THE OUTRAGEOUS SLUT HE IS HOW COULD I NOT.
Plot wise I was not liking where that particular origin story was going in the beginning but it got increasingly better as the whole story unfolded.
I ADORED the way teen!Scott was involved in it and I fucking SQUEED MY HEAD OFF when Xavier appeared at the end to take all the freshly escaped mutants away.
All in all it was very entertaining and I will definitely go see the finished version in the theaters.

on 2009-04-05 04:49 pm (UTC)I highly recommend it and it was very different from what I was expecting. Ryan is absolutely heartbreaking in it and he managed to be in whole new way (from his previous roles). That's what I call versatility !
As for Wolvie hum... I'd say that it was definitely way better than X3 but not as good as the first two. The plot is okay but full of cliche moments and sillyness.
Then again it's good mindless entertaining popcorn fun and the (almost all) male cast is very good. The slash writes itself !
(by the way, Taylor Kitsch is maybe one of the main reason I watched Friday Night Lights season 2.)
I only knew that Cathy despised him in FNL and of course I don't watch that show but as Gambit ? HE OOZED CHARISMA, CLASS AND BURNING HOTNESS. He also has the coolest fighting routine of the whole bunch.
