fairy_bliss and ephyse this weekend to see Simon Amstell's stand-up show, Do Nothing.
Let's just say that it was completely worth the effort because it was probably one of the funniest stand-up shows I've seen and it totally lived up to my humongous expectations.
We didn't quite know what to expect since we've only seen him on Buzzcocks and not much leaked about his tour. I suspected snark and edginess and we got both of course, and I knew that he talked about his love life but I never would have imagined that the whole stand-up would be this personal. From a guy usually so private, he was quite upfront about his insecurities and his awkwardness. It made the whole thing feel more special in a way, like overhearing something we weren't supposed to.
He fails at hooking up with boys he has a crush on. So he ends up creepily stalking them.
His type in men is ill-thin (as in thinner than him XD) and very vulnerable, which makes Jesus his ideal in male beauty. I lol'ed.
He's not an atheist because he thinks he has a God-like mind.
I cracked up so hard when he told us which actor/character he fantasized about when he was younger. I thought aboutjedicathy the whole time.
We're all going to die so there's no point worrying about anything.
He loves theater. No, he looooooooooooooooooooooooooooves theater.
CAT-AIDS, PEOPLE. It's as crazy as it sounds, her doctor thinks so too.
A mother fangirl gave him her 18 year old son. Mother of the year Y/Y ?
There was also those hilarious bits of impro where he was desperately trying to crack up the father of a girl who obviously wasn't a fan and kept a straight face the whole way through.
He also talked about "a friend" who gave him advice to improve his seduction skills and his confidence and the way he talked about him (the friend saying things like "We MUST join you" or to be "spontaneous" and "adventurous", illustrated with appropriate arm gestures) made no doubts in our minds (mine andfairy_bliss that is) that he was confessing right there and then that RUSSELL BRAND LOTHARIO EXTRAORDINAIRE managed his love life. So accordingly, we died of squee.
We had some truly annoying bunch of hyper teenage girls behind us who kept on giggling ALL THE TIME. They completely spoiled the momentum of Simon's conclusion which was a beautiful introspective comment which wasn't meant to be funny. It was unbearable and we just knew that we would find them waiting at the stage door.
And we totally did :/ But we were less than ten people and once again, our frenchness came to our rescue. Simon came out almost right away and focused his attention on us three calm and collected girls, almost ignoring the bouncy squeaking things crowding him on his right. He was absolutely adorable with us and chatted for a good 5 minutes. He was of course extremely surprised that we came all the way from Paris and wondered how we knew him (eph told him that we got our hands on Buzzcocks thanks to the intrawebz).
Some bits of conversation I remember clearly, which was the bit where we snarked at him. That's right, WE GOT ALL SNARKY WITH SIMON AMSTELL \o/
Simon : Aaaw Paris is so romantic. I had my first kiss there.
Ephyse : What was his name ?
Simon : ... I can't remember *laughs*
Me : Not that romantic then !
...
Simon : I should come and do gigs in Paris ! *smile*
Me : You can but we would be like, 5 people in the room.
Simon : Oh ok then *hurt puppy look*
Then he tried to speak french and Eph (who hates when english folks try to while they clearly can't) told him "no don't do that, seriously !" XD
We asked him if the friend he talked about was Russell Brand and he confirmed it with "oh yes ! Why ? Did you sleep with him ?" which made us laugh and say no, and thenephyse made the best comeback in the whole fucking universe and asked him "and you ?" to which he said with a chuckle "No. Not yet."
Cue to us keeping our composure while DYING OF SQUEE OVERDOSE INSIDE.
Oh and there was programs signed and pictures taken and it was overall a super lovely encounter. As sweet as Tim Minchin from last week, he really is very different from his telly persona.

We then wished him a good night and left to make way for the brainless seaguls beside us (who also were giggling during our entire conversation with Simon, GAWD I JUST WANTED TO KILL THEM) and walked a bit down the street to quietly explode of squee and forephyse to smoke a well deserved fag. He didn't stay long with them and we could hear him telling them that he really had to get back to his hotel. He left them quickly (while they thought appropriate to follow him to his car in a bouncy fit of girly giggles) and passed by us, smiled and said "look at you smocking in the corner, that's very french." We laughed and told him again to have a good night, he wished us a good weekend and got in his car.
In short, it was FOR THE WIN.
I'm a bit sad that with this little trip ended my last planned trip to the UK. I hate not knowing when I'll be able to go back.
I have tons of tv shows to review and I especially need to share my glee about White Collar's latest episode (and the show in general because it rocks my universe) but I'll keep this for the next post.
I just have to finish with some pimpage :
The Waters of Mars new trailer ! I CANNOT WAIT. It looks so dark and gloomy and I wasn't that excited about it before (compared to the regen specials) but the bits and pieces I read about it really got me excited now. D-11 !
The talentedtalitha78 made one of the first White Collar fanvid of the fandom and I've watched it so many times already ! (seriously people if you're not watching this show then watch the vid and then get on with it ! Why are you not watching ? WATCH. IT.)

In other news I'm gutted that David Tennant landed an american pilot (selfish and irational, I know) and I wish english people would stop fleeing the coutry (Russell Brand I shake my fist at you).
I'm however fucking overjoyed that he will be hosting this year's Buzzcocks Xmas special and that Catherine Tate and Bernard Cribbins will be guesting OMG ! My brain will probably explode if David and Noel get snarky with each other and I may never recover.
I'm also reminded that christmas now means : David Tennant in Buzzcocks, David Tennant in QI, David Tennant in Hamlet and David Tennant in Doctor Who.
