I loved it ! It wasn't exactly a breathtaking episode (next week looks like it, tho !) but it was a fun, silly story and once again, Eleven rocked my socks off.
The new daleks are FANTABULOUS ! I love that they're big, bright and really beautiful. I don't find them scary but I didn't find the RTD ones either so it's not an issue for me. I never had a problem with the daleks and I just love that they now sport an 80's look and are all rainbow-y. I'm actually excited to see them in the future.
Churchill was quite nice (loved that he wanted to steal the Tardis key) and the Tardis was late again ! I am noticing your lateness gurl and I think it is significant for later.
The doctor's various reactions when he came face to face with the daleks again was the most interesting aspect of the episode to me. Matt Smith did a really good job showing the doctor's distress and fears as well as his frustration and isolation when nobody around him would listen to him or get the danger of the situation. I thought the moment when he just couldn't take it anymore and lashed out at the soldier!dalek with all his might and fury while everyone else stared mindboggled was just *so* well done.
The whole face off scene between the Doctor and the new daleks was also incredibly good. Simply because threatening them with a Jammie Dodger was extremely bold and doctorish and I just loved the back and forth between them ("don't mess with me, sweetheart !' gawd *squishes weeleven*).
SPITFIRES IN SPACE was really really cool. They couldn't go wrong there !
Amy was a bit less productive in this but still very awesome. Her lack of knowledge about the daleks definitely confirms that something's not quite right with her. I wonder if the fact that the robot!scientist was scottish was also some sort of hint (or if it's just Moff'scottish agenda of doom, eh). The fairytale resolution with the bomb was very easy and contrived but I did love Amy's speech and the looks between her and the doctor and the forehead kiss ! I also loved the 'in 15 minutes you're going to be sooo deactivated' scene. How much do I adore that he calls her 'Pond' ? Rather a lot !
Loved that the Doctor was again isolated at the end when he was feeling completely guilty and worried about letting the daleks escape.
The last Doctor/Amy scene about the Doctor's arch enemies (oh hon, wait til you meet the evil ex !) and the fact that it's not just running around fixing stuff but actually dangerous was a really nice moment. I enjoy their dynamic so much *clings*
Idk what to think about the crack. Either the arc is extremely heavy handed or like
fairy_bliss pointed out to me, we always see it as they leave because it's them causing it for some reason. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
All in all, I don't think Gatiss'episodes are particularly memorable but this is by far my favourite.
Oh and speaking of teh Gatiss, he was so lovely in the confidential ! The Prodigy in the sountrack (hahaha BEST USE OF SPITIFIRE EVER) amused me because ironically, I missed the episode last night because I was at a (BITCHIN') The Prodigy gig.
So in conclusion :
GATISS > YOU.
