*points to her icon in glee*
renestarko, as usual rules.
I've also snagged teh new kiss and Ianto howling in the rain. GDL seems to have improved in the crying department. At least that's what I feel from the trailer.
I've started to watch my Torchwood dvds in preparation for series 2 and to get myself in the mood and it's working great ! I'm suprising myself to rewatch the episodes with great pleasure and I'm already up to Greeks Bearing Gifts.
I had somewhat blocked all the Jack/Gwen stuff at the beginning from my memory and it made my skin crawl all over again.
Gwen is like the ultimate mary sue but I can't deny that Eve Myles is a pretty good actress.
Now I just hate Owen's guts and I loathe Burn's acting, I find him terrible (especially in Ghost Machine where he's supposed to look traumatized but only manages to evoke a fish out of water instead). But weirdly enough, even if I don't like the characters, I kinda enjoy Owen/Gwen, especially during Countrycide. I think their relationship was nicely handled and they have a pleasant chemistryand it gets Gwen far away from Jack. Of course I just wanted to smack them silly in Greeks Bearing Gifts for being twats of epic proportions to Tosh and I ♥ Toshiko with all the figments of my soul (except for her OOC crush on Owen, come on the man looks like a monkey.).
So yes Tosh, very sweet and cute, somewhat shy character that reveals herself as strong and tough in Countryside (*LOVED* when she was looking after Ianto, who's just a lost puppy not used to all this stuff) and well, conflicted and angsty in Greek Bearing Gifts. She's already one of the most interesting part of the Team and she's not even all that developped yet. I'm really looking forward to see more of her in the new series, preferably 'interacting' with Martha, kthxbai.
Ianto is impossibly lovely, I've forgotten how much. He has those HUGE blue eyes and you just want to cuddle him all the time. Ok so I kinda laugh at him the whole duration of Cyberwoman and I still can't help it. But that has nothing to do with the character and everything to do with Gareth's failed abilities to cry credibly (but apart from that he's not that bad an actor, far from it). I'm really excited to see what they have in store for Ianto in series 2, it already looks deadly exciting.
And finally, ZOMGILOVEJACKHARKNESSSOMUCHICOULDCRY. I have my troubles with him in Torchwood, sure, like his sometimes exaggerated ruthlessness but in the end he's just GAH so bloody gorgeous and funny and woobie *points wildly to icon again* that I can easily excuse all his flaws. I need more Jack icons ASDLMD.
I've already kissed and made up with Jack/Ten thanks to
versaphile (who has become a fic factory *squee*) and I may just do the same with Jack/Ianto thanks to the mood I'm in.
*sighs* J-11
I've also started the big new who marathon (edit : I've spelled that marthathon the first time, telling much ? *rotfl*) in preparation for series 4 with
angeliksmall and we've watched the first 2 episodes. I *adore* Nine, Nine was like adorably weird in his own special way but so much more balanced than Ten it's striking. And I think that the Nine/Rose dynamic is simply brilliant. She lacks in class and he lacks in social skills but they work marvellously together. Their bond was way more profound and developped than what we ever got with Ten and Rose later in the series. They just clicked better. Their chemistry had more balance and in two episodes we already got lots of strong scenes between them (especially 'We're falling through space, you and me' from the pilot and their scene after the earth gets blown up in the second one *flails*).
In comparison, Ten/Rose felt much more light and brighter in tone but not as meaningful. The only big display of feelings came from the end of Doomsday and some bits of the Satan Pit. Simply because Ten always had a much more detached behaviour. No to say that I didn't enjoy Rose with Ten but they were times where they were borderline childish and that wasn't always cute. While the subtext between Rose and the ninth Doctor was continuously addressed throughout the first series, which is why it was stronger and felt more real to me. Not something you added as an afterthought to write the departure of a characterI may get flamed for that last sentence lol.
I think Billie Piper worked better with Chris Eccleston because they were so very different.
So I guess my favourite Doctor/Companion combos from the new series are Nine/Rose and Ten/Martha. But it doesn't matter since they will both get pwned by Ten/Donna in a couple of months, I'm already sure of it. :D
