So last week I went 4 times to the movies and wanted to post about it because I loved every single one of them but I have postponed this post for the last week or so because of my epic laziness.

Sherlock Holmes has finally been out over here for 2 weeks and now that I've seen it (twice last week, eh) I'd say that the hype surrounding it is well deserved. It was hot, fast paced and terribly endearing. Robert was completely Ace, not that it was unexpected and I was pleasantly surprised by Jude Law's Watson, especially since I'm usually not the biggest Law fan. They had wicked chemistry and worked really well together. I was also pleased by the supporting cast since I always love me some Mark Strong and Rachel McAdams.

I Love You, Phillip Morris really didn't disappoint. Both Carrey and McGregor played their part brilliantly and the story was in turn hilarious, sweet and yet incredibly sad. It was hard to believe that it was indeed a true story because some of the con Steven Russell pulled off were just completely unbelievable. I've read a very good interview with the real Russell and not only what is in the film is as close to the truth as it gets, but he really is a fascinating man. It breaks my heart a little to think that he is now in solitary 23 hours a day for the rest of his life. Couldn't they make him work for the FBI or something ? He's like a super Neal Caffrey ! I've ordered the book and can't wait to read it. I really loved their story.

Brothers was mainly worth it for the stunning acting performances of Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal. The film felt so intimate to me that I had the impression that I was intruding sometimes. The trailer was also misleading and the story was not quite what I expected, which is a good thing since it turned out way more interesting and challenging than what I thought it would be. It also had quite a strong anti-army, anti-war message at its heart that I did not expect and found really well handled and moving.

I'm seing Valentine's Day tomorrow (and going to a Cobra Starship gig afterwards, eeehh). Shush. I love me some stupid romcom once in a while and it doesn't make me a girly girl that girls kthx.

In other news, I have started a That 70's Show marathon because I have acquired all 8 seasons, thanks to my dear [livejournal.com profile] fairy_bliss. I will watch it properly for the first time (meaning all of it, in order and not dubbed) since I never had the chance before. I've almost finished the first season already and OH THE NOSTALGIA IT BROUGHT. I was surprised by how well I remembered some of it.
The episode where Joseph Gordon-Levitt guests as Eric's new BFF-who-really-wants-to-get-in-his-pants was so cute ! He looked so very young and his voice hadn't finished to break yet. I remembered JGL was in it before I got my hands on the show and it certainly helped me to watch the first part of the season faster. So yes, I'm enjoying the hell out of it, especially the 70's pop culture references, the retardedness of Kelso and the eerieness of Fez <3

As for soapland, sorry for exploding all over your flist but FUCK NOES I HAVE STILL NOT RECOVERED FROM THE FACT THAT JAKE AND VAN WILL BE IN MY COUNTRY IN JULY. I spent the week making up slightly batshit scenarios with [livejournal.com profile] fairy_bliss because nobody really knows the extent of our batshit behind closed doors but I will just say that it's quite epic and I often mortify myself.

I've discovered that I have a real problem with soaps. I apparently can't stop getting into them since I've discovered that they have the Best Gays. I clearly need an intervention.
So after a failed first attempt, I stubbornly tried Verbotene Liebe again and WHADAYAKNOW I fell in love with Christian and Oliver.
I was caught up with it in 4 days which seems ridiculously fast but since the show is often ignoring them and only write actual stories for them only once in a while (they're just standing there, giving advice to other characters the rest of the time and it's really offensive !) it was easy peasy.
I have some issues with the actual pairing because they are absolutely adorkable, but sometimes it's just all there is to them. Their drama is always short lived (when there is drama, which is not often) and they're not struggling enough.
With Nuke and Deniz/Roman, the struggles and the soul-crushing pain they go through is what make the fluffytiems so fucking rewarding. It's backwards with Ollian because I don't get excited by the long periods of fluff, I'm just bouncing madly everytime ANGSTIEM rears its awesome head (or simply when it focuses on them after a long period of 'let's just hang around and give advice', eh).
But despite this, I've grown attached to them because they really make a cute pairing.

Case in point in fanvid format (by [livejournal.com profile] rhiannonhero)

I'm also ridiculously infatuated with Christian and have nicknamed him 'ptit poussin' (lil' chick) BECAUSE THAT'S JUST WHAT HE IS. He acts all tough and manly but really ? Schatz is a spectacular angsty woobie and his vulnerability makes me flail into oblivion.

Also I am shallow and I'D HIT THAT SO HARD I WOULD PASS OUT.

The actors are also awesomely dorky which of course helped. Watch them running around London like the fierce dorks they are.

The current storyline is very promising in the angst department though. Well I do know it will deliver since I've spoiled myself rotten ha ha ha. I can't wait !

I had no idea you watched VL !

I didn't know that but I'm not surprised because it looks so natural and perfect onscreen ♥

YOUR ICON SUMS UP THE REASON OF MY FIERCE LOVE FOR THEM.

[except for the bit where you proclaim our mutual batshitness. Oh well...they'll know it soon enough anyway.]

Nobody will ever know the true extent of it since we keep it between us in epic gtalk chats. They *may* get a clue when we both handcuff ourselves to Jake and Van (Hugh Grant style) in july but it's still months away :D

You do need to see Brothers, it's brilliant !

I'll lend it to you, klare.

I CANNOT WAIT EITHER I LUFF IT TO BITS. YOUR ICON IS WIN.

I HAVE ALSO NICE ONES OF JO, LIKE THIS ONE :

Oddly enough, I think I prefer Olli... I think it's the multicolour sweatshirts and stupid smile that did it for me.

By the way, did you manage to understand what happened to the girl who was buried under tons of concrete (FUNNIEST DEATH EVER, Y/Y?)? Some storylines are so boring that I think I forward too much and miss a few things.
Oh and I watched the last videos and OH NOES! Rob is "pushing drugs" at the NoLimits!!! Who'd have thought this guy was weird and had bad intentions? XD
Honestly, those soaps do make me laugh and entertain me. But I think one's enough.

Very glad "I love you Philip Morris" didn't disappoint you 'cause I'm really looking forward to it but some bad reviews had spoiled my fun :(

Oh but it's not because I'm like, TEH HARDCORE CHRISTIAN FAN OF DOOM that I don't appreciate teh fab Olli and his improbable fashion sense, au contraire :)

There's nothing to understand, the actress wanted to leave, they gave her the most ridic ending evar for shame and I guess everyone else think Olivia is trying to make it in Hollywood by now.

I LOVE ROB AND THIS SL LIKE PIE. I REALLY DO. I love when there's trouble in paradise, it's way more epic than being lovey dovey all the time.

Honestly, those soaps do make me laugh and entertain me. But I think one's enough.

Hmm. That's like if you decided to stick to one flavour of icecream for life or like Galouz pointed out to me, if you said that you liked makis and decided to eat some once in your life and be done with it but hey !

The thing is what I love about the three pairings I'm following is that they couldn't be more different and each one works for me in unique ways.
The other two are way less mistreated by their show and are rarely used as background characters tho (well it's currently the case for DeRo a bit but since Chrolli have a true storyline right now it balances itself nicely !).

Yep, but the thing I don't understand is why they haven't made a single mention of Olivia since her death. Usually, killing off a character is a good occasion for epic angst and so I was... well I was almost looking forward to it! XD

I understand what you mean but it's just that 5 minutes every two days is the maximum time I'm ready to spend on soaps at the moment. I'll see during the next holidays 'cause I started Christian/Olivier out of boredom during the last summer so maybe the next one will make me start another pairing. But at the moment I have so many good shows I want to watch and that don't make me want to roll my eyes at the writing. I mean, you've seen my list, I'd better start ASAP! :)

Waiting for you to hit the SH fandom.

Also gdi, I Love You Philip Morris still hasn't come out here, AND THIS SUCKS.

I'm not sure I'll hit it because I rarely do when it comes from a film. Like last year, I enjoyed the hell out of Star Trek and saw it 3 times in theaters, rewatched it right away when I recieved the dvd but I never really got into the fandom (and boy was it active).

I hope it comes out soon because I had high expectations and it met them all so I'm sure you'll love it !

Weeeeeeeeeeell, the film prompted me to read the stories again and now, yeah. I'm not in the fandom, I'm not sure if I'd call it being in the fandom because I don't really um, actively participate in any of the communities online and such, but I am really involved otherwise? How do I even. I READ AND THINK ABOUT IT A LOT, THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING.

Well in that case, if you read some really good ones, send it my way ;)

If you mean Conan Doyle's stories, they are all here! (http://spellbreaker.org/~chrender/Sherlock_Holmes/) My favourites are The Sign of Four, The Adventure of the Speckled Band and The Boscombe Valley Mystery, although so far I've only managed to read The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and the four novels.

If you mean fic, however, I REALLY BLOODY LOVE THESE:
These Things Were Promises (http://paperclipbitch.livejournal.com/128436.html) by [livejournal.com profile] paperclipbitch - it's kind of long (50,000-odd words I reckon), but the characterisation is spot-on and there is so much, so much UST and hurt/comfort! There is Holmes being protective, Watson being Watson, it's just... okay, so she got all their personality traits so right! I cannot praise this fic enough, seriously. READ IT.

Change, or Lack Thereof (http://shockselectric.livejournal.com/24136.html) by [livejournal.com profile] shockselectric has got Holmes lusting after Watson, and it ends in sex. It, well, okay, yes, it's porn, but it's good porn! I like when porn has a prelude that just builds up the tension, and then it delivers beautifully, which this fic does. Idk this girl is so far my favourite author in the 2009 Holmes fandom.

YEAHHHHHHHHHH
