I know he has many flaws but I don't think RTD would be stupid enough to consciously want to piss off half the fandom like that. Or he wouldn't have bothered defending the fact he *did* loved Martha in the past.

I'd like to see a Martha/Rose meeting just to see Martha kick her blonde ass. I love both characters but Rose tends to annoy me quicky when i watch old episodes.
Also, WTF? He watched the show with John Simm, the man tipped to replace him as the Time Lord.
I thought this old rumour's been dismissed. It's not true, is it?

Rose could be seriously annoying at times but I really hope for them to get along and not have a kind of petty jaleousy toward each other like say, Rose and Sarah Jane did when they met.

As for the WTF it would never happen in a million years since John Simm has become allergic to all kinds of long commitments after having worked on Life on Mars for two years.

Well what I understand from the article is that it was the recording for Jools Holland's annual Hootenanny (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hootenanny_%28UK_TV_series%29), so hopefully we will be able to see the Team Timecock action when it gets broadcast on New Year's Eve! :D

Sorry to randomly comment on you like that but it's the second comment of the sort I've seen on this entry and that just tickled me a bit. That's kind of a double standard in fandom isn't it? The fact that it's perfectly okay to talk about how Martha totally pwns Rose and is much better than her, but when Rose fans talk about how they think Rose is better than Martha they get labelled as batshit insane 14 year old fangirls. I'm generalizing here, but that's generally the case.

It's perfectly okay for you to think Martha is better than Rose, but I think comments like yours and the other one above (I'd like to see a Martha/Rose meeting just to see Martha kick her blonde ass) just add fuel to the fire. I understand that RTD's alleged comments make people want to respond and contradict his statement, but I don't think it's necessary to always compare Martha to Rose when trying to demonstate how awesome she is. Wouldn't it be better in fact to (unlike The Doctor) not compare her to Rose and appreciate her for her own awesomeness?

I'm sorry for rambling LOL I'll get off my soapbox now.

That was the whole point of this post really, to show some arguments about the fact that Martha actually *has* come into her own as a more than competent companion and that it was unecessary to take the piss at RTD for one poorly misquoted comment.

I *do* personally prefer Martha to Rose but that doesn't mean that I don't like the latter at all.

I absolutely understand that, I mean, sometimes for the sake of discussion comparison is needed. I just think in these cases it wasn't and their points (assuming their points were in fact that Martha is awesome, and not that Rose sucks which would still make my point that it only added fuel to the fire stand) would've come across even if they hadn't used Rose in comparison. Exactly. I mean, I think I remember RTD saying in a confidential that season three was about Martha's journey and that in the finale she finally came to her own and stood out of Rose's shadow (I'm paraphrasing but that was the jyst of it I believe) and that's precisely what I felt watching the third season.

I understand you can't really reduce the whole thing to a silly mathematical equation type thing but I just couldn't be bothered to go into a big explanation of my opinions. I don't have a massive hatred for Rose or anything but I just prefer Martha because she is someone I can relate to much more as she is much more independent and, y'know, had a life before the Doctor came along. And clearly the fact that she basically saved the world on her own in LoTTL should make her awesome on the basis of her own merits in anybody's eyes.

So no offence, but I don't need you going off on a big rant at me accusing me of thinking all Rose fans are "batshit insane 14 year old fangirls" on the basis of one comment that doesn't really even say anything anyway.

I'm sorry if you felt I was attacking you in any way, I was merely trying to point out that comments like that, wether they are only half serious or not don't do Martha or Rose fans any good. For the record, I also encourage Rose fans to not compare her to Martha when talking about how awesome Rose is.

And yeah y'know I think the whole point of introducing a companion as special as Martha, was to make it even more obvious how the Doctor was struggling to get over his emo state of being. If they had deliberately introduced a rubbish companion to follow Rose, then that would have been missing the point of the arc RTD was planning on. Whether it was a good arc or down is down to viewers personal preference, but it certainly wasn't there to say that Martha wasn't as good as Rose as a person
