GIP and who watching
May. 25th, 2008 04:00 pmYes because I bitched about the serious lack of diversity shown in the trailer but it doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy what we saw of Rose in it.

There was no New Who last night but that didn't stop me from taking a DW fix. I saw for the first time An Unearthly Child and Balck Orchid and it was FTW !
An Unearthly Child : Hee first DW story ever ! I knew that the Doctor had kidnapped companions at some point but I didn't know it was Ian and Barbara in the very first story. His manical laugh as he did it amused me greatly. I enjoyed this team TARDIS very much but boy, Susan does scream very loud, doesn't she ? I'm tempted to watch the following one because it's the first Dalek story but I really want to finish watching all of the Pertwee era first (or at least the Pertwee/Delgado ones).
Black Orchid : It was a really good time to watch it because it made me think so hard of the Unicorn and the Wasp XD The story was fun and I *LOVED* teh Five eyecandy (especially the random cricket game and the bit where he was stuck in the secret passage wearing only a thin bathrobe XD). I loved the fancy dress party and Tegan's charleston skills <3 It didn't have a mindblowing plot but it was really entertaining.
And I completely forgot to mention that I really loved Indie 4 ! I wouldn't say that it was the film of the year but it was greatly entertaining and deliciously cracky ! I didn't see the two hours pass at all.
Harrison Ford's remaining skills were dead impressive.
It's definitely not the best of the series but it's far from being the worst.

I wasn't even supposed to post about it butfrelling_tralk made such a brilliant meta on the subject that I had the urge to pimp it since I couldn't agree more.
Oh look ! Coherent thoughts.
She particulary nailed that part :
Martha is going to be appearing in a spin-off, as well as continue in DW. All of this surely points to the fact that she is meant to be a kick-ass character in her own right, and that RTD does appreciate her. Martha's character didn't need the Doctor to fall in romantic love with her, especially when the audience all know the reason why that didn't happen, and it had nothing to do with Martha's flaws.I mean heck plenty of people did fall for Martha.
And for the record, I'm as hardcore a Martha fan as you can get. This was the only comment I made responding toyourfavoritesky's post yesterday :
He (RTD) was repeatedly surprised at people who thought he didn't like Martha. I think he meant to say that the Doctor and Martha couldn't just have the same kind of bond that the doctor had with Rose, which does not make her any less special in her own right. It was just poorly phrased.
Thing is I refuse to harsh my squee from the Voyage of the Damned trailer so that's my interpretation.
As for mah squee ? Still intact.
Especially since David Tennant and John Simm are publicly dating again, and Freema is still breathtakingly gorgeous, so WTF ever fandom. :p

She did a perfect job at showing the complete awesomeness that is DW.
I'm just so very proud and happy to be a fan of Doctor Who after watching this.
It features Rose, Martha, Donna and the Doctor which have each a distinctive part of the songmix she chose and it's flawlessly done.
The parallels between Rose and Martha are stunning
Even if you hate Rose or Martha or Donna or fanvids, for that matter, just take a look anyway because I doubt that you won't feel the love.

Ah DW fandom.
There's a Martha vs Rose fan wank that is still going on and I still don't see the point.
I love Martha and I loved Rose, am I like the only one ? I don't get why Marthafen and Rosefen have to cancel each other out.
There's clearly some disturbed individuals who're giving both sides a bad image but I just find the whole thing... Pretty useless and silly.
I loved Rose but I dealt with the fact that she's gone and it's over, I'm not desperatly hoping for more Rose angst in series 4, because that's so not was the series 3 finale was about. That chapter has been closed and I'm fine with it.
I had a hard time seing Martha go but I'm not like madly hating the Doctor now or devastated by the fact that Doctor/Martha never happened in canon. I'm just excited to see the new directions they'll take with her character next year.
So that's where sometimes I don't understand the level of obsession over certain characters or pairings in fandom to the point that the rest should just not exist.
The whole thing is pretty amusing to follow but yeah... I don't see the point. Oh well.
Of course I may feel completely detached since for me the OTP of the show is Doctor/Marster, obviously. XD
